About this Recipe

Detroit Pizza is similar in style to a Sicilian or Roman style pizza. Some call it the perfect rectangle - complete with melty cheese, a thick crust, and crispy pepperoni. Invented in the 1940s, this iconic dish is traditionally made using old steel drip pans. What separates this pizza from most is the cheesy crust - a fundamental part which is made easier than ever in your Brava. Just place half of the mozzarella cheese around the edges of the pizza, and then dress and top your pizza as you would. Press the green button and let Brava do the rest.

Ingredients

  • 12.0 ounces fresh pizza dough
  • 6.0 ounces tomato-based pizza sauce (we love anything with San Marzano tomatoes)
  • 8.0 ounces shredded low-moisture mozzarella
  • 8.0 count pepperoni slices
  • 10.0 count basil leaves (optional)
  • 1.0 tablespoons red pepper flakes (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

    Prep dough

    • Place pizza dough in Brava Square Pan covered with a towel or plastic wrap.
    • Allow pizza dough to rise at room temperature for at least 2-6 hours, or until the dough has relaxed and you notice air bubbles forming.

    Prep sides and toppings

    • Place half of shredded mozzarella evenly between the 4 vertical sides of square pan and dough.
    • Spread tomato sauce evenly on top of dough.
    • Evenly distribute rest of shredded mozzarella on top of tomato sauce.
    • Place pepperoni on top of mozzarella.
    • Add any other toppings as desired.

    Cook pizza

    • Place square pan on top shelf.
    • Select ‘Detroit Style Pizza’ on Brava touch screen and follow instructions to place square pan on top shelf and press green button.

  4. 4

    Serve

    • When your food is done, transfer pizza to cutting board.
    • Arrange basil slices and red pepper flakes on top of pizza, if using.
    • Cut pizza into slices and serve.
